A Financial and Behavioral Coach….

Past performance is no guarantee of future returns;
this is NOT investment advice and is meant to be educational in nature.

“I’m not sure who’s gonna win tonight, but what I do know
is that there’s gonna be some heads rollin’.”

— Coach Hammontree, North Gwinnett HS, ~99’

Ah yes, the ole ball coach. If you knew Tennessee high school football in the ’90s, you know Coach Hammontree: Maryville state champ, Carson-Newman linebacker, and a legend to anyone who ever played for him, me included. He coached me at North Gwinnett High School, Suwanee, GA; some of the absolute best days of my life. That night, his words proved true: heads rolled, we won and set the foundational trajectory for the schools future state championships.

And the relevance…

Hammontree’s point was simple: staying focused and disciplined in the face of fear reduces the risk of failure. Few things spark fear like a 1,000-point market drop, and nothing threatens a financial plan more than an emotional reaction to short-term volatility. The past 18 years have delivered some of the wildest markets in history, but despite the chaos and the many heads that rolled, one truth held steady: discipline prevailed, and somehow, so did Bitcoin😊.

During the COVID bear, I managed 195 high-net-worth clients during the hardest stretch of my career. Heads were rolling for what felt like years, and “it’s not a loss until you sell” wasn’t going to cut it. My job required pure logic, discipline, and handholding. In the end, after serving as advisor, psychologist, and behavioral coach through what felt like the end of the world, I lost just one client. On the absolute lowest day of the bear market. This one client who after talking to a friend who was a “financial advisor,” ... an “equity guy” to be exact, gave him all the go ahead he needed to liquidate everything.

…and his profession? A financial advisor as well, with 40 years of experience.

The capital markets can be terrifying, and even the pros panic with their own money. But a well-built financial plan, funded by a high-quality strategy aligned to your risk tolerance and guided by a coach whose incentives match your long-term success; that’s the recipe for staying grounded and coming out ahead.
